The idea for this project originally came from ‘The Weaver’ – a short story by Orcadian writer George Mackay Brown.
We are working choreographically with ideas suggested by the structure of a loom, the counterpoint of the warp and weft threads, patterning, cycles and the drifts of generations.

The work will be an installation based piece set to a ‘score’ that draws on sound material we hope to source in the Orkney Archive Collection.

The spatial structure for this work is based on the locations of the 11 major lighthouses in Orkney.
Choreographically we are exploring  images and ideas conjured up:
By the word ‘Loom’ in the sense of appearing and disappearing
By the serene  constancy of the lighthouse beam in contrast to the mutability of the sea
By the action of casting (light), revealing, showing
By the energy of eddies and currents
Physically we are working with a sense of movement appearing out of and disappearing into the body.
